The passion for motor racing in Avezzano exploded in the 1950s, when the Mayor of Avezzano, Angelo Tirabassi, with the support of a group of citizens, created the so-called Settimana Marsicana.

In 2012 the first edition of the 'Avezzano Circuit' was held. a regularity race, the brainchild of journalist Eliseo Palmieri, who was the town's culture councillor at the time.
